Dutch Mill Cabinets retains many of the time tested woodworking methods that most other shops have abandoned to paltry production based practices. This is done in a timely and economical way by utilizing appropriate equipment as well as innovative jigs and shop setups. For example, Dutch Mill uses “glue and dowel” construction in its face frames while almost all other shops use pocket screws or oftentimes no face frames at all! While most shops simply nail the cabinet ends to the shelves or deck, Dutch Mill puts a rabbet or a dado in the end, glue and then nail it in the shelf or deck creating an exceptionally stout cabinet. The list goes on and on, from the beginning up to the last step of coat after coat of pre-catalyzed lacquer with a custom glaze if desired; Dutch Mill is definitely a cut above the rest.

Dutch Mill Cabinets, is a 41 year old family-owned custom cabinet shop located in North Idaho. It all started in 1976 when Greg Vander Feer, an avid woodworker, opened his own shop. Beginning in and serving the Southern California area, Dutch Mill over the years came to specialize in truly custom cabinetry. Designing the cabinetry to the specific design of the customer while utilizing his experience in functionality, Greg made Dutch Mill a shop in high demand for over 30 years. In 1998 Greg’s son Ryan Vander Feer joined the company. Soon picking up on the custom nature of the cabinetry, the father-son team worked out well. Ryan also through further education came to advance the shop in wood finishing techniques. Greg eventually went on to teach part time in the Woodworking Manufacturing Technology program at Cerritos College as a cabinetry instructor. The company then decided to make a big change. It moved to North Idaho..
